For single-cell charging, the MCP73811 and MCP73812 li-ion/li-polymer charge-management controllers feature selectable or programmable charge currents up to 500 mA in a 5-pin SOT-23 package. Both are USB compatible, eliminating the need for external power, and come with integrated current sense, a pass transistor, and reverse-battery protection. The MCP73811 has a digital input and selectable USB charge currents of either 85 mA or 450 mA, while the MCP73812 offers a user-programmable charge current via an external resistor. Prices for the MCP73811 and MCP73812 are $0.57 and $0.59 each/10,000, respectively. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (888) 628-6247.
