Dubbed the industry’s smallest, the MIC23250 dual, 400-mA 4-MHz PWM synchronous buck step-down converter resides in a 10-lead MLF package measuring 2 mm x 2 mm. The device integrates two synchronous rectified dc/dc converters to eliminate the need for external MOSFETs. It accommodates an input voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V and provides fixed output-voltage options down to 0.72V. Under normal loads, the chip operates in 4-MHz CCM PWM mode and automatically transitions to a variable frequency operation mode during light load conditions. Other specs include a typical quiescent current of 35 ?A, an output ripple of 20 mVp-p in light-load mode and less than 3 mV in full PWM mode, up to 94% peak efficiency and approximately 85% with a 1-mA load, and an operating range temperature range from -40ºC to +125ºC. Pricing starts at $1.47 each/1,000. MICREL SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (408) 944-0970.
