In a DFN package measuring 2 mm x 2 mm, the LTC4059 li-ion battery charger is said to fast charge without overheating within the system. A complete charging circuit that employs the device requires just two additional components, an input capacitor and a charge-current program resistor. The chip features a thermal resistance up to 60°C/W and can charge a single cell from a 5V input with up to 900 mA of current. In shutdown mode, supply current is 10 µA and battery drain is less than 1 µA. Operating temperature range is –40°C to +85°C and pricing starts at $1.35 each/1,000.
