The MAX15034 dual-output, synchronous step-down controller is capable of driving external MOSFETs via two 25A outputs or a single 50A output. The controller operates from a 4.5V to 5.5V or 5.5V to 28V input range, making it compatible with both 5V- and 12V-bus applications. Programmable features include output voltages from 0.6V to 5.5V, switching frequencies from 100 kHz to 1 MHz, current-limit threshold, and an external compensation network. Promising space and cost savings, the device employs an average current-mode scheme that provides a current-limit and current-sharing accuracy of better than 10% between phases Additional features include the ability to start up monotonically when the output is a pre-biased voltage, two enable inputs with turn-on thresholds to allow output-voltage sequencing, external frequency synch, plus thermal-shutdown and hiccup-mode protection. Available in either a 28-pin TSSOP or a 28-pin TSSOP with exposed pad, prices start at $2.56 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
