Providing an interface to Intel's PXA processor with wired Ethernet controllers, the company's companion device is based on its QuickPCI family of programmable bridge controllers. The device relies on an integrated PCI controller to provide native connectivity to the LAN chips. Reportedly, this provides designers of embedded systems access to cost-effective technologies found only on the PC platform. Drivers for the companion IC have been verified for Windows CE 5.0 and Linux. The companion device is currently available in production quantities, priced at $5 each in high volume.
