Providing up to 500 mA of output current, the AAT1120 step-down converter resides in a standard 8-pin, 2 mm x 2 mm STDFN package that occupies 4 mm2 of PCB area. Measuring 0.55 mm in height, the device is suitable for use in a plethora of portable applications. It targets systems using a single-cell li-ion/polymer battery, 5V or 3.3V VBUS, and operates over a 2.7V to 5.5V input range. Output voltage is adjustable from 0.6V to VIN, and the device supports 100% duty cycle, low-dropout operation. Operating at an efficiency of 96%, the converter also specifies a 30 µA no-load quiescent current, and its 1.5-MHz switching frequency supports the use of small external components. Other features include over-temperature and current-limit protection, soft-start control, and an operating temperature range from -40ºC to +85ºC. Price is $0.85 each/1,000.
