Using firm's Advanced Generation 5 technology to provide an extremely rugged and efficient device, 40 V HEXFETs target automotive applications where a Zener diode has been used in the alternator to limit load dump to less than 40V. The lower voltage requirement allows use of lower-voltage MOSFETs that can provide significantly lower values of on resistance. This increase in efficiency lets designers use less power to perform the same jobs, which results in increased power efficiency and reduction in costs by using less silicon to perform the same task. Power dissipation is 6 to 9 mW, depending upon type selected. A wide variety of packages is available.
