The LM5642 high-voltage, two-phase synchronous switching buck controller provides an input voltage range from 4.5V to 36V and operates either in a dual-output mode or a bi-phase mode with a single output and twice the load current. The current-mode control loop can use either a discrete current-sense resistor or top-side n-channel MOSFET. The controller's oscillator frequency can be synchronized up or down between 150 and 250 kHz or it can run at 200 kHz where two controllers operate 180Þ out of phase to reduce input filter capacitance in high current applications where the device is used as a single-output regulator. Each output of the device can be set from 1.3V to 13.5V. The buck controller in a TSSOP-28 costs $1.85 each/1,000. For more details, call Mike He at NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Santa Clara, CA.
