Biometric sensor modules can take advantage of the Intellimax FPF2024, FPF2025, FPF2026, and FPF2027 advanced load switches from Fairchild Semiconductor, which provide a 1-µA quiescent current. According to the company, that’s the lowest tally in the industry, prolonging battery life by using less that 2% of the current of alternate solutions that offer quiescent currents ranging from 60 to 80 µA.
Robust current limiting protection built into the devices prevents damage from adverse events associated with unexpected current surges. The FPF202x series also boasts an operating range of 1.6 to 5.5 V to address the voltage specifications for biometric sensor modules found in laptops, ultra-mobile portable computers, smart phones, and other portable devices.
These switches come in a 1- by 1.5-mm wafer-level chip-scale package (WL-CSP) that includes electrostatic-discharge (ESD) protection up to 5.5 kV. They use lead-free terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the lead-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. Pricing is $1.49 each in lots of 1000. Samples are available now, with delivery in 12 weeks ARO.
