Deemed the smallest to date, the MAX16033 through MAX16040 microprocessor supervisory circuits embark in 8- or 10-pin microDFN packages measuring 2 mm x 2 mm and pack additional functions that include processor reset, battery-backup switchover, power-fail warning, and chip-enable gating. The chips automatically switch RAM to the backup battery when Vcc falls below the reset threshold or battery voltage. They also initiate a reset when Vcc is below the reset for at least 150 ms after Vcc returns above its threshold. The MAX16033/16037 include a manual-reset input and the MAX16036/16040 feature an adjustable auxiliary reset input. The MAX16034/16038 provide a watchdog function that triggers a reset whenever WDI remains high or low for longer than the watchdog timeout. The MAX16035/16039 feature a battery-on output during battery-backup mode while the MAX16033 to MAX16036 provide internal gating of chip-enable signals. Each device in the family integrates an active-low, push-pull reset or active-low, open-drain reset, and includes a power-fail comparator. Other shared specs include a quiescent-current consumption of 13 µA, an operating voltage down to 1.2V, and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Pricing starts at $1.98 each/1,000-up.
