Dropout measuring just 150 mV at 500 mA--that's what the Si9185 50-mA CMOS low-dropout regulator offers. Housed in a compact, thermally enhanced MLP33 PowerPAK package, the device's 3- by 3-mm footprint is 70% smaller than the industry-standard SO-8 package. It's specified for input voltages from 2 to 6 V and is available in 10 fixed voltage options ranging from 1.2 to 5.0 V, as well as in adjustable output voltage options. The Si9185 features noise output of 100 µV with a noise bypass capacitor, 1.5% output voltage accuracy, 1.1-W power dissipation, and a maximum shutdown current of 1 µA. Operating from -40°C to 85°C, it's designed to prolong battery life in compact, portable electronics, including notebook computers, PDAs, digital cameras, and smart phones. The Si9185 LDO costs $0.60 each in 10,000-piece quantities, with lead times up to eight weeks for larger orders.
