The 7311S series crystal oscillator (XO) targets data communication and storage-area network (SAN) systems that operate at high frequencies and require a low-jitter timing source. It's available in an output frequency range of 100 to 170 MHz. Standard frequencies include 106.25, 125, 155.52, 156.25, and 161.1328 MHz. The 7311S, which offers a differential LV-PECL tri-state output, features jitter performance of 3 ps typical. It operates from a 3.3-V dc supply voltage and typically consumes 60 mA. The device incorporates a 150-MHz high-frequency crystal with a leading-edge proprietary on-chip generator. It exhibits excellent frequency stability of ±25 ppm maximum over a wide operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. A version that operates from 0°C to 85°C is also available. The 7311S measures only 5.0 by 7.0 by 1.7 mm and comes in a hermetically sealed six-pad surface-mount package. The device can be used in a variety of applications, including InfiniBand, Gigabit Ethernet, 10Gigabit Ethernet, Sonet/synchronous digital hierarchy, and SAN devices. The 7311S oscillators costs under $4 each in 1000-unit quantities.
