The SC1406 is a hysteretic-mode power supply controller for notebook PC designs using Pentium II and III CPUs. The device is said to be the first of its kind to incorporate two on-chip linear regulator drivers for powering system clock and I/O. It provides efficiency ratings to 90% over a wide load range. For enhanced stability, an extremely fast comparator with 25-ns typical propagation delay and an output voltage tolerance of less than 1% is included on the chip. The LDO drivers provide 500 mA and 100 mA of steady dc current with external PNP transistors with output voltage settings of 1.5V and 2.5 V, respectively.
