Two new single-chip synchronous buck dc/dc converters with integrated power FETs are capable of delivering a current of 4A at up to 95% efficiency over the full industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The EL7563C and the EL7564C operate from an input voltage range of +3.0V to +3.6V and +4.5V to +5.5V, respectively. Both products integrate a pulse width modulator (PWM), control logic, a precision reference, and two continuous 4-A MOSFETs in a 20-pin fuse-lead SOL package.
Power tracking makes the start-up sequencing of multiple converters possible and power sharing enables the use of these converters in parallel to provide more than 4A of output current. Internal soft-start protects CPUs from initial power-on voltage transients and reduces in-rush current. PWM oscillator frequency can be set with a single external capacitor or synchronized with an external clock to prevent interference in the total power-supply system design. Price of the EL7563C/64C is $3.63 each/1,000.
