This power factor correction (PFC) controller IC has been designed for use with power MOSFETs in electronic ballast and low power (<150W) switch mode power supplies. The FAN7527, available in SOP and 8-pin DIP packages, is a boundary conduction, current-mode controller with low start up and operating current to minimize power loss and increase efficiency. The FAN7527's integrated R/C filter eliminates the need for external components. Adjustable over-voltage protection circuitry improves turn on overshoot and current limiting characteristics. Other reliability enhancing features include no-load runaway protection and output drive clamping to limit overshoot of the power FET gate. The FAN7527 controller IC costs $0.75 each/1,000.
