Designed to improve the performance of noise-sensitive circuits in portable devices, the NCP500 low-dropout voltage regulator operates within a voltage range of 1.8V to 6V and does not require an external bypass capacitor. The device features a low dropout voltage of 170 mV typical at 150 mA as well as an enable pin and current- and temperature-limit protection circuits.
Available in a five-lead SOT23 miniature footprint package, the device is targeted at cellular handsets, handheld instruments, MP3 players, and other portable consumer products. The company designed the device to work with small, low-cost ceramic capacitors and requires a minimum output capacitor of 1 µF.
The NCP500 is offered with seven different output voltages: 1.8, 2.5, 2.7, 2.8, 3, 3.3 and 5V. All of the versions are available in the same five-lead SOT23 package and priced at $0.25 each/12,000.
