Translators Link Low Voltage ASICs To High Voltage Devices

March 1, 2002
Capable of interfacing ASICs operating on voltages to 1.2V with peripherals operating on voltages to 5.5V, the MAX3372E to 3379E and MAX3390E to 3393E dual/quad logic-level translation ICs include ESD protection to ±15 kV on their I/O VCC pins.

Depending on the device, features include power consumption of less than 100 µA of quiescent current, a 0.3 µA three-state mode, and 2.5V to 5.5V operation and 1.2V to VCC logic supply. As to operating speeds, MAX3372E/3377E are slew-rate limited and operate up to 250 kbps, while the other devices operate up to 16-Mbps when used with an active driver and up to 500 kb/s with an open-drain driver. The translators have a -40¡C to 85¡C operating temperature range and come in 3 x 3 and 4 x 3 UCSPs and 8-pin SOT 23s. Prices start at $0.90 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
