Addressing the need for more efficient voltage regulation in cellular baseband devices and microprocessor cores, the NCP1500 dual-mode PWM buck converter targets such applications as mobile phones, handheld radios, and lithium-ion battery powered devices. The device includes a linear mode that is said to significantly reduce noise and quiescent current at low current levels, and a PWM mode that delivers up to 91% efficiency for heavy loads. The device has an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.4V and digitally-programmable output voltages of 1.0V, 1.3V, 1.5V or 1.8V. In addition, it can supply in excess of 300 mA to the load.
