Touting a breakthrough, the MIC2044/45 protected, power-distribution switches operate with input voltages as low as 0.8V and are said to have the industry's highest current ratings. Both devices integrate a high-efficiency NMOS pass element with control circuitry, allowing them to manage load currents in excess of 6A. They are described as current-limiting devices that provide user control over the limiting point via a single external resistor. Self-protection features include temperature sensing and shutdown circuitry. Response to a fault is by way of load-current limiting in the MIC2044 or via a circuit-breaker type response in the MIC2045. Other shared features include slew rate control, under-voltage lockout, and a power-good output comparator. Price for either device starts at $2.22 each/1,000.
