Sporting a high level of versatility, the non-synchronous, 500-kHz TPS5430 SWIFT dc/dc converter is comfortable in a variety of environments, i.e., industrial point-of-load (POL) systems, digital televisions (DTVs), DVDs, battery charging, and 12V/24V distributed power systems. The device integrates a FET that delivers 3A of continuous output current (4A peak) and supports input voltages from 5.5V to 36V. For applications requiring higher output voltages, the TPS5430 can step-down voltages as high as 30V. Efficiency is greater than 90% and operating temperature range is from -40°C to +125°C. Output voltage is adjustable down to 1.23V with an accuracy of 2%. Additionally, the device specifies an 8-ms soft start time and an 18-µA shutdown current. The TPS5430 comes in an 8-pin HSOIC while the TPS54317 is available in a 24-pin QFN package. Prices are $1.85 and $2.50 each/1,000, respectively. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
