Supplying up to 4.5W of power, the AAT1210 dc/dc boost converter is said to be the first to boost a single-cell Lithium-ion battery output to a 5V/900-mA output in a package measuring less than 1 mm in height. Operating from an input range of 2.7V to 5.5V, the converter delivers an output voltage that can be set from VIN + 0.5V up to 18V. A hysteretic current mode control circuit eliminates the need for external compensation, and a 2-MHz switching frequency enables the use of low-profile external components. To minimize leakage current, the device employs a unique true-load-disconnect function, which isolates the load from the power source when the converter is turned off. Additionally, the AAT1210 achieves power efficiency levels up to 90%. Options include dynamic voltage scaling in which the output is adjustable dynamically across a 2x range via a patented single-wire simple serial control interface. Available in a lead-free, thermally enhanced 16-pin TDFN34 package, price is $1.31 each/1,000. ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGIES INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 737-4600.
