The AS1135 debuts as the industry’s first powered device (PD) controller implementing the two-event physical layer classification of the IEEE 802.3at standard (Draft 2.0), an upcoming PoE standard raising the maximum available PD input power to 30W from 13W in the existing 802.3af standard. Available in a 20-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm QFN package, the device provides AT Detect functionality on a logic output pin, indicating successful PoE connection to Type 2 PSE and is capable of operating with a local power input as low as 10V. It also allows external setting of the switching frequency of an integrated dc/dc controller in the 100 kHz to 500 kHz range. Other features include integrated surge protection, programmable DC current limit up to 800 mA, support for local power down to 10V, and over-temperature protection. Price for the AS1135 is $1.66 each/1,000. AKROS SILICON, Folsom, CA. (916) 351-8100.
