Promising to reduce costs in blue-laser applications, the ST8R00 is allegedly the first dc/dc converter on the market to feature an output current cut-off function, which eliminates a number of external laser-protection components. In applications such as Blu-ray Disc players/recorders, laptops, and game consoles, the device forecasts significant space and cost savings without sacrificing performance. Other features of the ST8R00 include a typical efficiency of 90%, an adjustable output voltage from 6V to 12V, and an output current up to 1A.
