Described as the industry's smallest 8A synchronous buck regulator, the FAN2108 operates with a wide input voltage range from 3V to 24V and integrates the controller, MOSFETs, and boot diode into a 5 mm x 6 mm MLP. The device employs the company's PowerTrench MOSFET process with, reportedly, an extremely low figure of merit to reduce conduction and switching losses. At a 12V input and 8A load, it delivers a 92% efficiency at a 3.3V output and 87% efficiency at a 1.8V output. Notably, with a 5V input and delivering a 3.3V output, the device achieves a peak efficiency of 95%. Other features include over-voltage, over-current, short-circuit, and over-temperature protection, pre-bias startup, and lead-free terminals. Price is $1.41 each/1,000.
