Developed using the company’s high-voltage BiCMOS process, the MAX17100 is an integrated power-management IC (PMIC) for gate-in-panel (GIP) LCD monitors. The device fulfills all the power requirements for GIP-based LCD monitor panels by integrating a boost regulator, three high-current operational amplifiers, a VCOM calibrator, linear regulators for gate-on and gate-off supplies, and a six-channel level shifter. It is designed to enable slimmer monitor form factors and is capable of powering the source drivers, gate drivers, and VCOM backplane in LCD monitor panels. All power blocks are optimized for GIP-based TFT LCDs. The boost regulator employs a 1.2-MHz switching frequency to allow the use of low-profile inductors and ceramic capacitors for slimmer panel designs. Built-in digital soft-start and an integrated power MOSFET control inrush currents while reducing the number of external components required. The MAX17100 delivers output voltages up to 18 V from a 2.5-V to 6-V input while achieving > 85% efficiency. The integrated op amps drive the VCOM backplane and feature a 200-mA short-circuit current with a 45-V/µs slew rate. The six-channel level shifter can swing from +35 V to -15 V and can swiftly drive capacitive loads. This PMIC is available in a 6-mm x 6-mm, 48-pin TQFN package and operates from -40°C to +85°C. Prices start at $1.50 each in lots of 1000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 737-7600.
