The NCV898031, an adjustable output non-synchronous SEPIC/boost controller from ON Semiconductor, is targeted for use in automotive applications. The device features a fixed switching frequency of 2 MHz and a 3.2 to 40 V input voltage range, using peak current mode control with internal slope compensation. It has a built-in regulator that supplies charge to the gate driver, plus a 1.2 V ±2% reference voltage. Protection features include internally-set soft-start, under-voltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown. AEC-qualified, the controller can cope with a 45 V load dump and has an operational temperature range of −40°C to 150°C. A low sleep-mode current of typically 10 µA helps keep total ignition off quiescent current budget to a minimum. Optimized for use in automotive applications, such as instrumentation clusters and infotainment systems, the NCV898031 SEPIC/boost controller is supplied in a RoHS-compliant SOIC-8 package and is priced at $1.02 each/2,500.
