Dual POL Regulator Keeps An Extremely Low Profile

Sept. 23, 2010
In an 18-pad MLPQ package measuring 2 mm x 3 mm x 0.8 mm, the SC283 may be the world’s smallest 1.8A dual-channel point-of-load (POL) regulator.

In an 18-pad MLPQ package measuring 2 mm x 3 mm x 0.8 mm, the SC283 may be the world’s smallest 1.8A dual-channel point-of-load (POL) regulator. Integrating VID pins to enable configuration and control of the output voltages of each regulator, the device eliminates the need for two pairs of external feedback resistors. It operates at a fixed switching frequency of 2.5 MHz, enabling it to work with very small chip inductors, and supports output currents up to 1.8A per channel. Other features include a power conversion efficiency up to 94%, typical shutdown current of 1µA, fifteen pre-determined output voltages per channel that are programmable from 0.8V to 3.3V, soft start, input under-voltage lockout, output over-voltage and current-limit protection, and over-temperature protection. Price for the SC283 is $1.32 each/3,000. SEMTECH CORP., Camarillo, CA (805) 498-2111.
