In a 2.5 m x 3 mm x 1 mm package and attaining 94% efficiency, the SC202 synchronous step-down regulator with integrated inductor operates with a 3.5-MHz PWM switching frequency and delivers up to 500 mA of output current. On-chip loop compensation and a programmable output voltage eliminate the need for external stability-control components and programming resistors. According to Semtech, the combination of high integration and ultra-small packaging enables a more efficient switching regulator, making the SC202 a viable LDO alternative. It operates from inputs ranging from 2.9V to 5.5V and provides 15 pin-programmable output voltages from 0.8V to 3.3V. Protection features include soft start, input under-voltage lockout, output over voltage, current-limit protection, over-temperature protection, and floating programming pin protection. Price is $0.84 each/3,000. SEMTECH CORP., Camarillo, CA (805) 498-2111.
