30W POL Regulators Are Rad Hard

Oct. 22, 2010
The SBB Series non-isolated, radiation hardened (RAD-Hard) point-of-load (POL) voltage regulators promise to maximize efficiency in space applications.

The SBB Series non-isolated, radiation hardened (RAD-Hard) point-of-load (POL) voltage regulators promise to maximize efficiency in space applications including satellites requiring a long mission life up to 15 years or 100 Krads of total ionizing dose. The regulators achieve an efficiency up to 89%, allowing the use of a smaller heatsink. They feature a 30W output power or output current of 14A. Standard outputs of 1V, 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V can each be adjusted within ±10% of a nominal output. Integrated input/output filters are also on tap to ensure low noise performance for stand-alone operation without the need for external filter components. Weighing less than 55g in a compact form factor, other features include a 4.5V to 5.5V input range, SEE LET (Heavy Ions) greater than 82 MeV.cm2/mg, under voltage lockout, remote sense compensation, adjustable output voltage, power OK (POK) status, and remote on/off control. Pricing begins at $5,000 each/10 for the SBB503R3S. For more details, call Sian Cummins at INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER CORP., El Segundo, CA. (310) 252-7148.
