Conserving battery life in automotive apps while providing load-dump and cold-crank compliance, the MAX16903 and MAX16904 synchronous step-down converters consume 25 µA of no load current and deliver 1A and 600 mA, respectively. The 2.1-MHz step-down converters operate over the 3.5V to 28V range and can tolerate load-dump transients up to 42V and cold-crank excursions down to 3.5V. The devices are capable of running at high duty cycle to maintain a steady output voltage during cold-crank and start/stop conditions.
