Power Density Improved With Integrated High-Voltage Regulators

June 20, 2013
High-voltage regulator transistors monolithically integrate a transistor, Zener diode and resistor into a standard SOT89 package.

The ZXTR2000 family of high-voltage regulator transistors from Diodes Incorporated claim to boost power-circuit densities through reductions in component count and footprint by monolithically integrating a transistor, Zener diode and resistor into a standard SOT89 package. Principle applications for the devices are in networking, telecom and PoE where they are ideal voltage supply regulators for primary-side controllers in 48 V dc-dc PSUs. The ZXTR2005Z, ZXTR2008Z and ZXTR2012Z regulator transistors provide high-voltage regulation by turning a nominal 48 V input into fixed output voltages of 5 V, 8 V and 12 V, where standard linear regulators cannot be used. Line and load regulation capabilities safeguard continuous operation by preventing latch-up from transient voltage drops, and with the unique structure of the devices, the input can tolerate spurious voltages up to a maximum of 100 V, creating a safety margin in the event of transient over-voltage conditions. The ZXTR2000 family of high-voltage regulator transistors are priced at $0.15 each/10,000.
