International Rectifier (IR) expanded its µIPM family with two power modules targeted at high-efficiency appliance and light industrial applications with motor power up to 300 W. The IRSM808-105MH and IRSM807-105MJH half-bridge power modules come in a 8- by 9- by 0.9-mm PQFN package, offering a 60% smaller footprint than existing three-phase motor-control power ICs, according to IR. They contain FredFET MOSFET switches optimized for variable frequency drives. The heatsink-free devices (printed-circuit-board copper traces dissipate heat from the modules) offer dc current ratings ranging from 2 to 10 A, and voltage of 250 and 500 V. Specific applications include compressor drivers for refrigeration, pumps for heating and water circulation, air-conditioning fans, dishwashers, and automation systems.
