Power Zener diodes developed by America Semiconductor, housed in a ruggedized, hermetically DO-5 packages, can withstand adverse operating conditions such as shock and vibration. The 50-W devices, constructed to promote good clamping ability, include solderable terminals, corrosion-resistant external surfaces, and a cavity-free, glass-passivated junction to enhance reverse-voltage resistance and reduce leakage. They feature a sharp kneepoint, low noise, and low dynamic impedance. Normal or reverse-polarity options are available. Polarity is indicated by the position of the Zener symbol on the part. A total of 46 voltages range from 6.8 to 200 V. Forward voltage measures 1.5 V, and operating temperature ranges from ‒65 to +175°C. Application areas include alternative energy, oil drilling, power grid, welding, HVAC, and transportation.
