Linear Technology’s LTC3624 17-V input-capable synchronous buck regulator provides up to 2 A of continuous output current to outputs as low as 0.6 V. Synchronous rectification reaches efficiencies up to 95%, while burst-mode operation requires a mere 3.5 µA of no-load quiescent current. The device switches at a fixed 1-MHz frequency (the LTC3624-2 version switches at 2.25 MHz). Both versions operate from an input voltage range of 2.7 to 17 V, which suits single-cell or multi-cell Li-ion stack input and 12-V intermediate bus-powered systems. A 60-ns minimum on-time enables step-down of 16-V inputs to 2.5 V at 2.25-MHz (LTC3624-2) without pulse skipping. Both can be configured to run in pulse-skipping or forced continuous mode. Their constant-current, current-mode architecture helps minimize switching noise while accelerating line and load transient response. Other features include a power-good voltage monitor, internal compensation, and thermal protection. They come in 3- by 3-mm DFN-8 packages.
