The AS1382 1-A synchronous buck converter is designed to reduce power-circuit losses and extend run-time between charges in Li-ion battery-powered devices.

The AS1382 1-A synchronous buck converter is designed to reduce power-circuit losses and extend run-time between charges in Li-ion battery-powered devices. The device, developed by ams AG, features an input range of 2.7 to 5.5 V and an output that drops down to 0.6 V. Operational efficiency reaches as high as 96%. It has a no-load current of 95 μA, and draws just 0.04 μA in shutdown mode. An internally fixed frequency of 2, 3, or 4 MHz enables the use of a small inductor. The stepdown converter comes in variants with fixed outputs of 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, or 1.8 V, or in a version with an adjustable output ranging from 0.61 to 3.35 V.

The device, which includes an internal synchronous switch that eliminates the need for a Schottky diode, operates in two modes: low-ripple/low-noise and high-efficiency mode. It is small enough for populated board designs like those in mobile phones and wearable devices.
