Power Up Your Skills at the IEEE’s ECCE 2025
The Energy Conversion Conference and Expo (ECCE), an IEEE event, brings together practicing engineers, researchers, and other professionals for interactive and multidisciplinary discussions on the latest advances in various areas related to energy conversion.
This year’s ECCE, being held in Philadelphia, Pa. from October 19-23, boasts an extensive program that will feature both industry-driven and application-oriented technical sessions, as well as expositions. The conference will take place at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
The conference kicks off on Sunday, October 19, with a series of full-day tutorials that include:
- Magnetics Bootcamp
- Trends, Challenges, and Implementations of Model Predictive Control in Power Electronics
- Rotating Machines: Insulation and Partial Discharge Inspection
Shorter tutorials will be offered throughout the remainder of the week (Mon-Wed). Among the topics are:
- Advanced EV Battery Charging Strategies
- Challenges and Mitigation of EMI and Partial Discharge in WBG-based Power Electronics
- Meeting the Demands of Fault-Tolerant Machine Drives for Safety-Critical Applications
- Industrial Medium-Voltage Converters and Drives: From Components to Systems and Applications
The conference program also features a series of Special Sessions covering a wide range of topics on both academic and applied power-conversion issues (Fig. 1):
- Top Challenges & Design-for-Test Considerations in Modern Power Conversion Systems
- Guidelines for Selecting GaN Devices for Your Next Design
- Addressing Next-Generation Challenges in Magnetic Components and Materials
- Putting Commercial Bidirectional Switch Devices to Work in Tomorrow’s Power Converters
- Advances in EMI/EMC Research in Power Conversion Systems
- Integrated Powertrain Development & Testing for Electrified Aircrafts
- Advances in Electric Automotive Propulsion, Power Electronics, and Drives
- Advances and New Applications for Solid-State Transformer-Based Multiport Converters
- DC Distributed Solutions: Applications, Challenges, & Opportunities
- Creating Sustainable Power Electronics by Design
The IEEE’s Women In Engineering (WIE) group continues its strong presence at ECCE with a lively program of activities. The WIE Luncheon, scheduled for 12:00 to 1:30 on Monday, Oct. 20th, will include a talk titled “Paths of Wisdom − Reflections from Three Mentors” and a ceremony acknowledging the recipient of the WIE’s ECCE Best Presentation award. WIE also will present a talk (open to all) titled “The AI Revolution at Work: How Robots are Changing Jobs and Managers,” to be held Wednesday, October 22, at 8:00 am (Fig. 2).
The ECCE’s Luminary Session, also on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm, features two widely acknowledged experts in their fields who will share insights on advanced topics and the future of the industry. Join Prof. Dushan Boroyevich, Emeritus Professor at Virginia Tech, will discuss highlights of his work in multiphase power conversion and electronic power distribution systems at the college’s Research and Innovation in Energy Systems department.
Dr. Bruno Lequesne, founder and principal of E-Motors Consulting will venture into some of his latest work in technology and IP investigation related to electrical machines, electromagnetic devices, and their applications, particularly in the energy conversion and transportation fields.
