By delivering 300W from an open-frame package measuring just 6.8" x 3.8" x 1.2", the ePower 300 commercial switching power supply claims to be the world’s smallest such switcher available today. At nearly 10W/in.3, the unit’s power density is said to be typically three times greater than most competitive supplies. The ePower 300 is for use in datacomm, telecomm, computer and peripheral systems, such as VME, VXI, CompactPCI, and similar rack-mount systems where space is critical. The new switcher offers a universal, 90-to-250 vac input, four outputs (3.3V, 5V and ±12V), and input PFC and EMI line filtering. And through use of various design innovations, ePower 300 has reduced rectification losses significantly, with its efficiency typically being at 82% and as high as 85% at 220 vac, which cuts cooling needs. Prototypes of the switcher are expected to be available in 1Q 200.
