With an eye toward IEEE 802.3at applications, Murata Power Solutions developed a dc-dc power-converter module that offers a 54-V SELV output, 2250-V dc isolation, and a Basic insulation system. The EMH-54/3-Q48N-C provides over 30 W at 54 V to each of four PoE+ Ethernet ports, or up to 162 W to loads requiring 54 V. Specifically, the device fits applications that demand a wide operating voltage range, such as battery-powered systems (24, 48, or 60 V), and wireless basestations. The converter delivers 54 V at 3 A over a 18- to 72-V input voltage range, with efficiencies up to 91.5%. An open-frame design enables it to be mechanically configured for apps that require forced-air cooling, or add an optional baseplate for mounting a heatsink or for conduction cooling in “sealed box” apps. The module’s DOSA half-brick package measures 58.4 by 61 by 12.7 mm.
