By tapping new match-box-size, high-frequency switching technology to replace bulky, heavy transformers, the Pulsar Ellipse line of UPSs is said to dramatically reduce the size and weight of its class of backup power systems. The new UPSs span a 300 to 1200 VA power range and are primarily targeted for use in PCs, workstations and small servers.
Other features of the UPSs include built-in surge suppression, data line protection, USB or serial communications, and compliance with Microsoft's new HID device driver protocol. And they also extend battery run-time-- they reportedly pack enough battery power to keep typical PCs running for 10 to 60 minutes or more. Price starts at $119.
