Fueling a migration from quarter-brick dc/dc converters, the Typhoon family of eighth-brick dc/dc converter modules now includes five low-cost 25A and 20A members. Described as the value models, the modules offer output voltages of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V and employ the same topology as their Typhoon predecessors. The 3.3V model exhibits a typical conversion efficiency of 91% when delivering its full 20A/66W output. Output voltage from each of the value models deviates by 70 mV during a 25% step change in load current at rates up to 1 A/µs and completely recovers within 20 µs. Other shared features include an input voltage range from 36V to 75V, input-voltage transient protection up to 100V for 100 ms, and adjustable outputs from 80% to 100% of nominal via a single trim resistor. Price is $49.50 each/1,000. ARTESYN TECHNOLOGIES INC., Boca Raton, FL. (608) 831-5500.
