30A Eighth-Brick DC/DC Converters Play It Cool

Oct. 8, 2008
Operating at temperatures up to 70°C, the 30A SQE series of eighth-brick dc/dc converters includes models with output voltages of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V. The 1.8V-output model requires just 200 LFM of cooling to deliver an output

Operating at temperatures up to 70°C, the 30A SQE series of eighth-brick dc/dc converters includes models with output voltages of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V. The 1.8V-output model requires just 200 LFM of cooling to deliver an output current of 29A and 300 LFM to provide 30A. According to the company, this industry-leading thermal performance is facilitated by high efficiencies—up to 92% for the 3.3V output model at half load—and advanced thermal management techniques. In addition, preclusion of a heatsink combined with a low profile minimizes airflow shadowing to enhance cooling for downstream devices. Other features include an input range from 36V to 75V, input differential LC filters, remote sense, start up into pre-biased loads, and input under-voltage, over-temperature, output over-current, and output over-voltage protection. Pricing is $38 each/1,000. POWER-ONE INC., Camarillo, CA. (805) 987-8741.
