Compared to current Li-Ion batteries, the company's recently developed Li-Ion technology foresees cells with 5x power gains, 10x longer life cycles, and five-minute charge times. Detailed as nanotech-enabled components, the batteries employ proprietary nano-scale electrode technology, the fruit of research performed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The first battery is currently in production, set for deployment in an established line of power tools requiring 36V operating voltages. Additionally, the batteries use thermally stable, non-combustible active materials that create a safer cell and eliminate some battery-pack components. A123SYSTEMS, Watertown, MA. (617) 778-5700.
