Dynamic Control Approach Optimizes Battery Charging

A new charging methodology developed by Iontra helps improve the performance of today’s batteries.

The heavy dependence on batteries throughout so much of our society has turned charging technology into a vital area of development. Providing a dynamic approach to charging, Iontra's charge control technology offers a new way to improve the performance of today’s batteries with only modest changes. 

The company’s responsive charge control adapts over the life of the battery, boosting performance, eliminating electrode plating, reducing battery degradation, and increasing cycle life. Enhancing current uniformity and decreasing degradation during charging can lead to significant increases in battery lifetime.

Non-uniform current and hitting voltage limits too quickly can damage electrodes and decrease charge speed. Iontra’s technology maintains a longer CC period before reaching the CV period, resulting in faster charging. 

During charging, micro adjustments are made based on subtle changes in the battery electrodes, enabling the Charge-Control Algorithm to safely operate in lower charging temperatures and higher charging voltage conditions. This, in turn, helps to eliminate plating and dendrites to reduce resistance and internal heating. The solution is compatible with multiple battery chemistries, including lithium-metal, and can support future zinc- and lithium-based battery formats.
