Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) introduced a synchronous 50-mA, 60-V SWIFT(TM) step-down regulator with high efficiency and low noise performance in a solution size of only 125 mm². The TPS54062 integrates both the high-side and low-side power MOSFETs, providing efficient power conversion and transient protection to noise-sensitive industrial automation and sensor control, smart meter, telecom, computing and consumer designs.

The new 50-mA, 60-V SWIFT converter can withstand high-voltage transients up to 65 V, while maintaining high efficiency across the load. For higher voltage transient protection at 50 mA, TI recently introduced its new TPS7A4001 50-mA, 100-V LDO, which achieves an extremely fast settling time of less than 500 nanoseconds for a 50-V transient event.

The TPS54062 also supports a variety of TI embedded processor applications, including Stellaris® ARM® Cortex™-M MCUs, C5000™ ultra-low power DSPs and ultra-low power MSP430™ 16-bit MCU-based applications, such as smart meter, building automation and security systems.

Features

  • High efficiency and performance: 65-V transient protection for specification overhead; wide temperature operation (-40° to 150°C); 90-percent efficiency at 24 Vin, 5 Vout at 150 kHz.
  • Excellent noise performance: TPS54062 can be synchronized to a clock via fixed frequency.
  • Low-power operation: 89-uA operating current with a shutdown current of only 1.7 uA.
  • Smallest solution size: switching frequency range of 100 to 400 kHz and small MSOP package with integrated high and low-side FETs result in a 20mm2 board space savings compared to competitive solutions.

The TPS54062 is available in volume now from TI and authorized distributors in an 8-pin, 3-mm x 5-mm MSOP PowerPad™ package. Suggested resale pricing is $1.50 in 1,000-unit quantities.
