Mitsubishi Electric has launched a 1200V large-type Transfer-molded Dual Inline Package Intelligent Power Module (DIPIPM) Version 4 (PS22A79) with a current rating of 50A. The new power module is designed for use in package air conditioners, refrigerators and other industrial motors.
The new PS22A79 employs the newly developed 6th generation with LPT-CSTBT (Light-Punch Trough Carrier Stored Trench-gate Bipolar Transistor) chips, in which carrier storage is improved through cell pitch reduction and power loss is minimized through application of the thin wafer process. The model reduces power loss by 15% compared to the preceding 5th generation IGBT.
The module's built-in temperature sensor offers vastly improved linearity and precision compared to that of the existing PS22A78-E (35A) model, resulting in more efficient heat control. Manufacturers will benefit from further downsizing of inverter systems, as well as reduced production costs.
In order to save energy and elevate performance, a wide variety of current ratings ranging between several amperes and hundreds of amperes are rapidly being adopted for inverter-based motor drive systems. DIPIPM, transfer molded intelligent power modules commercialized globally by Mitsubishi Electric in 1997, are widely used in inverter-equipped appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines, as well as inverter motor drive systems for industrial applications.
Mitsubishi Electric's 1200V, Large-Type DIPIPM Version 4 series with a current rating of 5-50A, is contributing to minimize inverter system size and a better cost effectiveness in customer's applications.
