XP Power has announced the SMM400 series, a family of 400-W AC-DC switching power supplies that enable more power to be delivered in an industry-standard 1U high enclosure. These units have power densities of up to 6.25 W/cu. in.

The low profile units come in 19 single-output and 5 dual-output versions. The SMM400 has a universal 90 Vac to 264 Vac input with a choice of output voltages from 3 Vdc to 48 Vdc. The primary output is user adjustable by ±5%. It has remote sense, power-good and remote on/off functions built in, with a current share function and AC fail signal offered as options. The unit is available in either U-channel or enclosed formats, with integral cooling.

Over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection are included. Screw terminals are standard and IEC or Molex input connectors, and Molex output connectors, are available as options. The integral fan version provides the 23 CFM cooling needed for full power operation and the units are rated at 250 W with only convection cooling.

The SMM400 operates in ambient temperatures from 0°C to +50°C at full power with derating to +70°C. Safety approvals include UL60950 and EN60950 for industrial and IT applications, and UL60601-1 and EN60601-1 for medical systems. The power supplies meet all major international EMC requirements.

The SMM measures 9.01 in. x 5 in. x 1.6 in. with fan and cover, excluding the input screw terminal block, or only 8.0 in. long for the U-channel. It is available now and priced from $231 per unit for the single output versions, based on 1000 pieces.
