Active Power, manufacturer and distributor of backup power solutions announced that it will provide 4 MW of power systems to support the air bridge infrastructure and service two main terminals at a major international airport being constructed in Asia. Ian Bitterlin, Vice President of AP’s EMEA Operations, said, “Our CleanSource UPS product is uniquely suited for this application because of the inherent reliability and efficiency of a flywheel-based system. Our product delivers tremendous power density, putting twice the power in half the space, this was a critical decision making factor for our client who had limited plant room space available and insisted upon a battery-free solution for their power needs.”

The airport, planned initially to service over 30 million passengers, is expected to open in
the fourth quarter of this year. This transaction, which is in excess of $1 million, is expected to ship in the third quarter of this year.

“Airport applications are quickly becoming a significant vertical market for Active Power, we currently support airports in Europe, the Middle East, Mexico and the Czech Republic, to name a few,” said Jim Clishem, President and CEO of Active Power. “This client was committed to choosing a battery-free solution from a provider who could deliver on their requirements for flexibility in terms of generator interoperability as well as someone who could meet their requirements for a quick delivery; we are delivering on those points.”
