Starting this month, power supply industry-veteran Lou Pechi will share his experiences and insights on the technology and business of power electronics in a new monthly column at the Power Electronics Technology website. With his 45 years of engineering, sales management, and marketing experience, Lou brings a unique perspective to bear in commenting on industry developments.

In his first column, “Where Have All the Gurus Gone,” which is now online, Lou reflects on some of the contributions of the early engineering luminaries in the power supply field. Lou identifies many of the pioneers who developed the first mass-marketed switching power supplies in the ‘70s and ‘80s. He also points out some of the particular applications that shaped their development, and how certain standards emerged in the industry.

Lou currently runs a strategic marketing company and is active in the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA), where he serves as chairman of the marketing committee. Over the course of his career, Lou has managed sales and marketing for several major power supply companies including Power-One, the company from which he recently retired. At Power-One, Lou introduced the Modular High Power product family, and was part of the team that established the company’s Silicon Power Systems (SPS) Division.

As an engineer, Lou developed power supplies, audio warning voice annunciators, automatic test equipment, and underwater communications spectrum-analysis systems. He holds BS in Physics from San Diego State University and an MBA in Marketing from Pepperdine University. To read his column, go to http://www.powerelectronics.com.
