During severe thunderstorms on the East Coast of the United States, Virtua Health, a multi-hospital healthcare organization headquartered in Marlton, New Jersey, experienced a period of unexpected power outages. Virtua uses the VYCON Direct Connect (VDC) flywheeltoprovide dc power toVirtua’s N Power UPS. Over a period of two-and-a-half hours, the VDC system discharged eight times, providing ride-through power in lieu of the batteries.

“These types of events allow our system to show customers the advantages of the flywheel technology over battery systems. The VDC is capable of supporting multiple outages on a daily basis without any concerns about reducing system life.” said Tony Aoun, President and CEO for VYCON. “We are very pleased that our system was there to protect Virtua Health when they needed it most.”
