Hospitals Ride Through Multiple Outages Using Flywheels

During severe thunderstorms on the East Coast of the United States, Virtua Health, a multi-hospital healthcare organization headquartered in Marlton, New Jersey, experienced a period of unexpected power outages. Virtua uses the VYCON Direct Connect (VDC) flywheeltoprovide dc power toVirtua’s N Power UPS. Over a period of two-and-a-half hours, the VDC system discharged eight times, providing ride-through power in lieu of the batteries.
