HP’s HP 8.6 kVA and 11 kVA three-phase modular power distribution units (PDUs) are suited for blade systems in a data-center environment requiring rack-mount power distribution. The three-phase PDUs use a modular architecture designed specifically for data centers. They address the frequent lack of outlet receptacles, rack space limitations, limited accessibility of PDU outlets, and high currents typically found in blade systems. Each unit uses a standard three-phase input plug and has six IEC C19 outlets.

The modular PDUs consist of two building blocks: the control unit (core), and up to six optional extension bars (sticks). The control unit can be mounted in a 1U/0U space, and the extension bars mount directly to the frame of the rack in multiple locations. Extension bars have seven outlets each, bringing the possible total number of outlets to 42 for each PDU. Prices start at $549 for the 8.6-kVA, 24-A model, and $582 for the 11-kVA, 16-A model.
